Camden street style #15: Floral print dresses and candy floss scarves
Monday, 16th June 2014

The glamorous Kirsty King, 18, from Shepherd's Bush, has just graduated from The BRIT School where she studied musical theatre. Now she's out and about enjoying her summer, dressed in vintage check-patterned trousers with a belt from American Apparel, Vagabond boots, a white T-shirt and a hat which she “stole” from her “lovely pal”. Kirsty, who has just bought her fluffy candy-floss coloured scarf from a vintage shop in Camden Town, said: “I'm obsessed with pink at the moment; anything pink bankrupts me because I have to get it.” Today she is out “curing a hangover with dumplings and shopping.”
Axelle Cosma, 25, from France, is on holiday celebrating her birthday with her boyfriend. She is dressed in Levi’s jeans with a Batman belt, a crop top from Urban Outfitters, a denim sleeveless jacket from Vans, a bag from France and a little bandana. Alex, who studies beauty and cosmetics, said she normally goes for the “pin-up, Rockabilly” style – but, just like in the musical Annie, she said “a smile” is where beauty really comes from.
Raylene Liow, who is originally from Singapore but living in Manor House, is out for a wander round the shops and has just picked some vintage bargains from Rokit. The 21-year-old who is currently studying photography, is dressed in black Vans plimsolls, black shorts from Zara, a white top from H&M, and some funky round sunglasses from ALDO. Raylene said she has dressed for comfort in the sun on this extremely hot day.
Lucas Barrow-Townsend, 22, is dressed in bright yellow printed shorts from his own African clothing stand in Camden Lock Market, which he said “were made by a guy called Omar in Serekunda in Gambia, out of Batik African fabric”. He explained that he goes over to different parts of the continent a few times a year to buy fabrics from markets, which he then takes to small tailors in villages to turn into clothing. Lucas, who lives in Primrose Hill, said: “The whole point of this is it gives as many people work in Africa as possible.” He has collections so far from Gambia, Ghana and Senegal. Today he has teamed his tribal shorts with a Superdry T-shirt, some Superga trainers and some yellow shades.
Jody Wong, 33, is a fashion designer from Hong Kong who is currently on holiday in London. She is wearing a floral print dress from a small shop in her home town with vintage shoes bought on eBay and a Cartier watch. The designer says she likes to mix up vintage and modern clothes to put her look together and thinks people shouldn’t follow trends, but just go with what they like.
